How to Clear Your Search Bar History

While it is quite convenient that your browser remembers your favorite and most frequently visited places on the internet, there are many moments when you would love to hide this information from everyone or from very specific people. Search bar history is used by most browsers to predict where you plan to go from the first symbol entered in the address bar. Convenient yet disturbing to some people.

The process of clearing this history is quite simple. However, the exact nuances of the process depend on the type of browser you are using.

Removing the history from the Firefox browser

One of internet’s favorites, Mozilla’s Firefox is very easy-to-use and offers a wide range of convenient tools including an option to easily remove your search bar history.

If you need to remove a single entry in the list:

01.   Launch the browser

02.   Start typing in the search bar until the item appears

03.   Click and hold or press “Down” button and hold

04.   When the string is highlighted, press the “Delete button” or tap again and hold until the notification pops up

Deleting the whole search history:

01.   Launch the browser

02.   Go to the menu by clicking the menu icon

03.   In the dropdown list, choose “Options”

04.   Go to “Privacy & Security” section and select “History

05.   Click “Clear History”

06.   Choose necessary types of data that must be removed and click “Clear now”

How to do it in Internet Edge

The new browser from Microsoft is not something universally loved, but it is used quite often and in some countries it is the most used internet browser. You need to know how to remove the search bar history in this browser.

01.   Launch the browser

02.   Go the menu by clicking the icon with three dots

03.   Choose “Settings” in the dropdown list and go to “Privacy and Security” from there

04.   Find the “What to clear” section

05.   Check the box next to “Browsing history” and press the “Clear” button

Removing the data in Internet Explorer

The default browser on many Windows powered PCs, this browser is quite cumbersome and clunky, but you will be able to remove the unnecessary information relatively easily. Here’s how you remove separate links stored in the Cache:

01.   Launch the browser and start typing in the bar

02.   Press the “Down” button on the keyboard or click and hold

03.   Wait until the “X” icon appears and click it in order to remove the entry

There is also a way to get rid of the history altogether. Here’s how you can do it:

01.   Launch the browser and click on the icon resembling a gear

02.   Find “Safety” and go to “Delete Browsing History” from there

03.   After checking the box “History”, click “Delete”

Removing URLs one by one:

01.   Launch the browser and start typing the address in the bar

02.   From the list below choose the items you want to remove

03.   Click the “X” icon appearing when you hover over them

Removing the whole history:

01.   Launch the browser and click the “O” icon to open the menu

02.   Choose “Settings” and look for the section “Advanced and Privacy and Security”

03.   Find the button “Clear Browsing Data” and specify the time range

04.   When all required preparations are made, press the “Clear Data” button

Working with Safari for MAC

Removing URLs separately:

01.   Launch the browser, find the “History” item and go to “Show all history”

02.   When the field with the search box appears, enter the name of the website

03.   Select the items from the list and press the “Delete” button

Removing the whole history:

01.   Launch the browser and go to the menu to find the “History” item

02.   Choose the “Clear History” button and in the pop-up menu specify the time range

03.   Press the button “Clear History”.

What about mobile users of iOS Safari?

Let’s remove single items from the history:

01.   Launch the browser and tap the icon that resembles an open book

02.   Find the “Clock” icon and search for URLs you want gone

03.   Swipe left on them to erase entries

Let’s clear the whole history:

01.   Open “Settings” of your phone and find “Safari”

02.   Tap the button called “Clear History and…”
